Any student who is interested in learning Spanish or improving their Spanish language abilities is encouraged to participate. Whether you are learning Spanish for the first time, or if you have been speaking it your entire life, there is a path in the program that will fit your needs.

Connect with a bilingual teacher! Many of our students who speak Spanish in the home already or who have participated in bilingual programming previously will be recommended to take the advanced class. If this is your first time taking Spanish or if you have limited exposure, the emerging class will most likely be the best fit. Our goal is to keep the program at approximately 50% of each. This may vary slightly from year to year, but stays close to that number. Depending on their language level, the mix of student in classes may vary.

Both the Spanish and English social studies classes teach to the BVSD standards for social studies. In Spanish social studies, students are encouraged to make connections between vocabulary and content in English and in Spanish and are provided resources to support their language and content acquisition.

Students who participate in both the emergent and advanced pathways within the Casey bilingual program most often start high school at a world language class at a level 3 or Spanish language arts. Some select students may start at a level 4. This puts students on track to take AP Spanish classes during their high school career and the potential to earn the seal of biliteracy upon graduating.
