Casey Middle School Construction Update | May 2020
Welcome the first of several communications regarding the construction project at Casey Middle School! First and foremost, we hope this message finds you and your family safe and healthy during this challenging time for everyone in the BVSD community.
The construction project is moving forward as planned, and we have a lot of exciting changes coming to Casey over the next several months. The BVSD Bond Department is committed to keeping you informed as the construction kicks into full swing! Our $2 million project will provide classroom remodeling, kitchen upgrades, and landscape renovations, as well as improvements to boost security among other work. The full scope of work can be found on the BVSD Building for Student Success website at bond.bvsd.org/projects/Casey.
This month, the contractor will mobilize to the site and set up a fenced construction area outside the school. Construction will continue through the summer, with substantial completion by August. The general contractor will follow social distancing and other safety protocols as they move forward with work at the school. The school, along with the south side of the site and a small area southwest of the turf field will be closed until August.
Once students and teachers have picked up and packed up their things, Fransen & Pittman Construction will begin the following work:
Construction mobilization, including installation of temporary fencing;
Install temporary protections in the school hallways;
Begin demolition in select areas of the school and landscaping, both outside the front entrance and by the turf field;
Begin framing of walls in the three rooms being remodeled;
Begin installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-in in designated rooms;
Begin landscaping work in select areas, including concrete pours and modification of sprinkler system where designated.
While this is just the beginning of a busy summer construction schedule, we are very excited for the improvements coming to Casey in the months ahead. We appreciate all of your support in making these changes possible. Go Cubs!
